That why it’s useful to be thinking in terms of workflows versus email campaigns.

In this automated sequence, once a visitor fills out your opt-in form they’ll be send the checklist, guide, or other freebie automatically. From there a Welcome Series of Emails is sent.

Email 2: In the next couple days, they could then be sent a friendly welcome email, thanking them for signing up, reviewing your mission statement or value proposition, and giving them a sense of what’s in store in future emails. 

Email 3: A few days later they’ll receive yet another email, adding some extra value. Maybe it’s a collection of relevant blog posts, or you’re offering more advice tailored towards the freebie you offered. 

Email 4: Think creatively! Maybe this is a great opportunity to share more of your background or your ‘a-ha’ moment that led you down the path you are now and who you’re trying to help. 

This is an example from my email sequence. I elaborated a bit more about my ‘a-ha’ moment in this email and how it sprung from the caption of our basketball teams untimely season-ending injury. I wanted to share a little more if my background and how it influenced what I do now! 

However many emails you send is entirely up to you and your business goals, but after all is said and done at the end of the automated sequence subscribers will automatically move to your regular email list with everyone else. 

It does take some careful planning upfront, but if someone hands over their email to you it shows they trust you (step 1 is complete!), and sometimes the best way you can deliver on your promise to them is by thinking through the above steps, deliver value, and nurture prospects in gaining their loyalty over time. 

And another note:

I encourage business owners to think creatively when coming up with copy in marketing your products. 

You do great work – oftentimes the most generic headlines don’t do your work justice or deliver on your promise. It’s something I think about too in my own marketing – what do my customers really want to get from me, or what do they value (time!), so I say you can get a beautiful and functional website without needing to know how to code OR without ringing up an agency everytime you need to make a change on your site (real-life experience!). Your site is yours – let me show you how! 

And there are likely those customers that are sold on the work you do already, but to cast an even wider net it’s usually best to skip the list of features and hit their pain points. What is your product really solving in their life, and how can you appeal to their emotions in relaying that message? 

Here are a few examples I’ve come up with where I’ve transformed simple headlines into something that appeals a bit more to our senses:

For organic food products 

Before: Safer ingredients – safer families

After: Satisfy your sweet tooth…protein that tastes like a chocolate donut! 

For Women’s Clothing 

Before: A dress to wear through the new year

After: You’ll always remember where you were when you wore that dress! 

Food

Before: This is how you ‘eat for abs’

After: Why I switched from ridiculous fad diets and counting macros to this simple 3-step framework for the healthiest life possible! 

You can begin to see how to creatively use headlines to extend our reach and go from ho-hum and vague into something a little more memorable when marketing our products or services to a wider audience. 


A CONNECTION WORTH SEEKING

If someone subscribes to your email list, that have expressed interest in what you have to say. This increases the connection and inspires you to be creative in delivering useful and valuable content that may enhance their own business in some manner and inspire them to reach out to use your services.

And beauty in all of this is you know have complete control of your email list from the start! Want to offer new products and need to warm up existing subscribers first? Simply create a series of emails to deliver the great news automatically. Say goodbye to the old ways of doing things of worrying about the Instagram algorithm *yikes* in reaching customers.
